Este trabajo de investigación es necesario porque las lesiones de la calota sólo habían recibido estudios seriados mediante radiografías simples, realizándose el último en el año 1975 (1). La mayoría de los demás estudios publicados a partir de esa fecha constan de descripciones de casos aislados, pero no se describe el conjunto de las lesiones que se pueden presentar en la calota con las técnicas de imagen como la tomografía computarizada (TC) y la resonancia magnética (RM). Debido a su sintomatología poco específica y su presentación incidental, los datos con los que se decide una actitud terapéutica o diagnóstica están basados principalmente en la TC. No obstante, respecto al tratamiento de estas lesiones, sí que parece que existe acuerdo (2). Uno de los motivos de este trabajo es conocer las características radiológicas cuantitativas de cada diagnóstico, ya que este tipo de análisis es muy escaso en la bibliografía, apareciendo sólo recientemente artículos en los que se describen este tipo de análisis para la clasificación de lesiones óseas (3). Hasta ahora no se ha comprobado la eficacia de los modelos basados en la regresión logística para la clasificación de las lesiones de la calota, así como tampoco el de las redes neuronales. Dado que existen pocas referencias en la bibliografía (4) acerca de la comparación de los rendimientos de los distintos modelos de clasificación de las enfermedades; es necesario comparar los obtenidos en este trabajo de investigación con el método idóneo, como son las curvas ROC. Con la construcción de distintos modelos diagnósticos, también se puede estudiar qué variables radiográficas están más asociadas a unos u otros diagnósticos y cuáles no son importantes para llegar a esa etiología. Con este trabajo se pretende saber qué signos radiológicos están más asociados con determinados diagnósticos comparando las distintas formas de clasificar, la estadística y la red neuronal. Se pretende por tanto estimar en qué formas se puede mejorar la eficiencia en el diagnóstico por la imagen de las lesiones de la calota y ver si alguno de estos métodos puede constituir una ayuda al diagnóstico asistido por ordenador.
